I've probably found a 15' SS with a 50HP Evinrude ('89) and was wondering what the group knew about that engine. I haven't seen that many Evinrudes on this boat and wanted to know about its reliability, known problems and the like...

Thanks in advance,
AnthonyT

I was given miss information, the engine is really a 79 Evinrude 50HP. So what is the scoop on this engine ?

Thanks in advance,
AnthonyT

Howdy, Anthony.

That loop charged twin was a great engine when new. If it has had good care it is probably still a great engine.

Good luck.

I dont know for sure but heard that the 50's of that era would break the crank even though same as the 40. Anyone know for sure?

I saw the engine tonight and it looked remarkably clean. Not the clean where a person went in and went through it with a fine tooth brush, but clean. No oil, no flaking paint it even still had a set of tools ( I think) inside. Pretty simple compared to todays engine. By the way, the engine was marked with "Lark 50", I even have the serial numbers if it helps.

The hull was amazing, including the hardware, not a spot of rust. The claim is that it sat in a barn between '92 to 2001. With a little clean up and polishing it could probably pass for new.

The mohagany is another story... it needs to be completely refinished. What type of finish did BW place on the mohagany, it seems almost like shellac and not many coats. Is this the case ? I will also need to replace a board or two.

Again thanks for all the input,
AnthonyT

So ah ah ... AnthonyT, What is the owners name and phone number? I just want to know so I don't call him by mistake. Yeah that's it, I don't want to call him by mistake. Just give me the phone number.
