I have been tinkering with a 84 Montauk with a 93 Evinrude 88 SPL for the past 3 years or so. Having not spent much of my previous life involved with boats or outboards, I am trying to work my way through the learning curve on the care & feeding of outboard boats. In preparing my Montauk this year for the summer season, I ended up having to replace the battery. In checking to verify that everything was OK, I notices that my voltage (checked with a Fluke meter, not the on-board voltage meter) did not increase appreciably when the engine was running. Off the voltage was ~12.5; running the voltage was ~12.6 or so.
Does this indicate that my charging from the engine is in doubt or about to fail? Is the voltage regulator on a 93 88 SPL adjustable? As this is a very popular motor on the Montauk I figure somebody out there will have some experience with this.
Thanks for the feedback...
