Does anyone have information for installing and maintaining an OMC Sea Drive? I need to learn mounting instructions and find an owners manual if they are still around. I saw the info in the whaler bracket article, and it was very helpful - but didn't have specific mounting instructions. Any info or references would be appreciated.

If you have a Boston Whaler that does not have an OMC SeaDrive installed on it, and you are looking for instructions on how to install one, you are in luck. The instructions are very simple:

DON'T!

I have 2 225 hp SeaDrives in crates with about 425 hours on them. All steering, controle, manuals, and instruments included. Make me an offer...... I spent $40,000 and repowered with twin Yamaha 225 4 strokes on an Armstrong bracket.

Paddle, if and that's a big IF you have an old time good to superb OMC mechanic locally for servicing the Sea Drives weren't such terrible engines!

Two here in NJ -- separate operations -- I have watched them work on them and ask WHY such a bad reputation!

Answer from both the engines weren't bad at all only the folks who didn't maintain them or poor service operations who only had limited understandings on how to service and repair, which they both stated in fact were numerous ones even thought these claimed OMC authorized service status!

Unless you have 'such' a bargain basement deal to purchase one/two wouldn't at this point in time invest in them as JimH said!

Thanks for the input everyone - but I'm really just looking for installation instructions. I have one in my barn ready to install, and just want to get all the information that may be available to ensure I position it correctly. If I have a bad experience with it I'll replace it, but would like to give it a try. I heard that a template may exist for correct positioning..any ideas or references? Thanks.

Then I would suggest checking with your local OMC/Bombardier dealer, the older ones probably have the rigging instructions.

Suggest you also have them check the engine out hate to see you drill all them holes and rig it out to find it needs major work!

Pabble,

I have all of the orginal installation instructions, templates, and owner's manual that came with my 2.5 Litre Sea Drive in 1986. Mine was factory installed on an 18' Outrage and she handles and rides like a dream.

EMail me your info at CUOffshore@aol.com and we'll figure out if what I have is what you need and, if so, how I can loan you the info.

Regards,

Dave
