I would like tp replace the white plastic/rubber caps that go over the tops of the SS rodholders in the RPS. I have read the previous discussion this but I was wondering if anybody knew where to get the white ones not the black ones, and also what the catalog/part number of them is. Thanks alot.

I recently refinished my RPS and Boater's world had the tops. I believe they were only about 3 dollars each.

I also got mine at a Boater World last year. I don't think they carry them anymore.

Perko makes them I believe and I think Tom Clark knows the part #. I wrote it down from another post a long time ago but can't find it. I need them also. they make 2 sizes I believe. We need the smaller size I also believe.

Does anybody know the part number for these things whether they be by perko, or from boaters world?? It seems like getting these things is more difficult than it should be, or at least harder than I thought.

Maybe Clark Roberts instead of Tom? Somebody had the part #.

Part number shows up in this post: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001973.html Arch was the one that provided the part number, he posted:

"West Marine. $7 each. Black. Catalog no. 483-DP1-99A. An exact fit."

It looks like I am going to have to go with the black ones. Which is too bad because the white looks a lot nicer.

good show taylor!

You can always spray dye them white if you like.

Any automotive store will have it. Called spray dye(Krylon?) comes in white, black, Beige(oooh), red, blue, silver, etc. Sticks real good to vinyl, etc. Used it on a jeep to change interior colors, lasted for.....probably still going. $5?

I user acetone to clean the ones on my RPS and they look like new.

Hello,
You may also try Plastidip. A couple of overlapping coats trimmed at the bottom may look good and be durable. Of course the rod holder wouldn't fit in the jar so you would have to pour it into a bowl or something.
Thanks
Chap

Bardshot,

Wasn't me nor was it anybody else that posted a Perko part number for the rod holder tops. Perko didn't make them. The closest we ever got here on the FORUM was Arch Autenreith's posting of the West Marine part number for the black ones as referenced by Taylor's post above.

I have never seen these in either black or white in either the West Marine or Boat US stores, catalogs or web sites. Can somebody provide a real link?

Hello,
Look at "Figure 483" on:

www.perko.com

Is that a picture of a black one? Maybe? I can't pull up the page.
Thanks
Chap

bard Pronunciation Key (bärd)
n.
1)One of an ancient Celtic order of minstrel poets who composed and recited verses celebrating the legendary exploits of chieftains and heroes.
2)A poet, especially a lyric poet.
3)To wrap meat or game in fatty bacon.
4)Armor to cover a horse, usually in time of battle.

So what is Bardshot?

Chap, nice sleuthing. Here it is: http://perko.com/cgi-bin/perko.pl?dis+483-liners_lips_and_tubes_info

While it is hard to tell from the photo and it appears to be black, these may work. I don't think this is the original but who knows? An alternative at the very least.

Hello,
Come to think of it, it may be a Whitecap Industries product in the RPS. Take a look at this:

www.boatus-store.com/browse/item.asp?IID=41314

White rubber lip sounds good to me.

Thanks
Chap

I'm leaving the Bardshot stuff alone. Had enough of that.

I saw this part last night at West Marine in Bellevue and it appears that the smaller one (483 DP1 99A) would right. I did not have my RPS rod holder with me, so I'm just esitmating. I thought perhaps that the cover was not as long/tall as the white original.

They do go both outside and inside the stainless, ie the slip over the end of the tube and both line the inside, and cover the outside. If that's not clear let me know.

They did not have two in stock so I did not buy.

But please don't tell Tom that I was at West Marine, and not at Doc Freemans or Fishery Supply.

It looks like we are just going to have to try some of these out and see what works. In regard to the caps on some of the posted web addresses, it seems that you cannot order just the lips, but instead have to order the whole rod holder????

taylor....Tom e-mailed me the Bardshot response. it is quite amusing and sharp wit on hautjim's part.
