Does any supplier have a paint (not gelcoat) that matches the desert tan color?

It has been pointed out that all desert tan is not the same, the sun changes the color over time. Get some 'offwhite' color chips from your local paint/hardware store and pick the one that comes the closest, then get a paint that matches.

Jimh mentioned this idea in the reference section under the heading 'Martha Stewart to the rescue'.

Unless you are planning on painting your house to match your whaler the paint that goes with the chips will not be much help, but the chip provides a good reference.

(Does Bigshot have the room where he has the statue of Dick Ficher painted Desert Tan?)

I found 'Almond' appliance paint to be close enough, not to blend exactly, but close enough for something that I wanted to kind of match.

Try Wimbleton White in the spray cans at the auto parts store. It's a Ford automotive color. Duplicolor is the brand name I know of but there are others. It's not an exact match, but fairly close depending on what you are doing with it.

FWIW, take the boat to a good automotive paint mixing shop in your area, and have them "shoot" the boat with their computer, and custom mix up a quart of a good two part paint. I went that route with our local shop, and used Concept 2000, a two part poly, and have been very happy with the results.

I found on the older whalers that the outside color is almost exactly the same as Johnson white from Tempo. Not even close on the inside tan though.

I recently had a friend from a auto body shop use a camera device that is placed against the existing paint and duplicates the color exactly. check with your auto body shops
