If so, how exactly did you do it? In raising the aft bench, say 10 inches, it looks like the best place to mount it is to the top of the seat risers. However, I'm concerned that an 18 inch seat riser (they're 8 inches OEM) is not going to support the port to starboard shear forces. The risers are screwed to the side of the boat, and I fear a little side-to-side rocking will pull them out. Any thoughts on this? Also, raising 10 inches puts you above the SS rail, which seems problematic.

You want to contact Clark Roberts of the Spruce Creek Navy. I have been in his 15 footer "KILLER". Did an awesome job on the seats. Mark

Borrito man,
Don't think you want to raise the seat that much,,,I saw one in Charleston several weeks ago that had the seat and console raised about 4 inches. I would think this is the max you would want to raise it. I have thought of doing the same with my 15. No I don't think you want to go above the rail.

ive got a 15' striper, no bench seat at the helm, a cooler seat instead.

wanted a larger dry box for safety/fishing gear, so got a larger cooler, enough for two to sit on. this puts my passenger and i uncomfortably high, perched about even with the gunwhales, only the grab rail as protection.

not terrible, but would prefer to be a bit snugger particularly at the speeds the boat can hit.

be wary of your exposure versus helms' comfort height.

I recently rebuilt the console of my 15SS to be 4" higher. At first glance it still appears to be original. This makes it about the same height as the railing and makes it possible to steer while standing up during low speed maneuvering. Any higher and I think it would look really odd. I just stack two throwable boat cushions on the stock bench seat to improve seating height. Will email photo if you are interested.

After hearing all your thoughts and taking yet another look at the boat, I'm becoming less ambitious about raising the seat that high. I guess I'll settle for 4-5 inches.
