I HAVE A EVINRUDE 225 HP, WHEN I SHIFT DOWN INTO NEUTRAL ON GO INTO REVERSE ITS VERY HARD TO DO, I FEEL LIKE I AM GOING TO BREAK THE THROTTLE LEVER, CAN I GREASE THE LINKAGE OR MAKE SOME KIND OF AN ADJUSTMENT???

More than likely, you will need to replace the cable itself. figure out how to disconnect the one you have got (actually there are two, one for forward and one for reverse).
Snaking it through whatever is really the only tricky part. Get the length and find an Evinrude dealer. They are $30 a piece.

disconnect the shift cable first and see if that is your problem(only 1 cable, other is throttle) then if free you know it is in the engine's shift linkage. If frozen, just a cable. If cable, change both while you are in there. Just tie the new cables to the old and pull them through like Quint said.
