Has any one tried to replace wire for lights on a 13'? If so your knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

This has been covered many times before here on the FORUM. The short answer is to run the wire for the bow light under the three piece rub rail. If your boat has the old one piece white rub rail then you might think about upgrading to the three piece. There is no way to run new wire through the hull itself.

Please see the REFERENCE section FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for the just-added question, "How Do I Repair the Wiring to the Bow Light?".

I had been meaning to add this question to the FAQ for some time. My answers draw heavily from the advice of Tom W. Clark and others on the FORUM who have been responding to this questions in its many forms for several years.

If I have omitted any crucial information, let's use this thread as a follow-up and I will make corrections and additions to the FAQ.

I have looked for the stubs of the wires that are run through the hull in my 1970 13' Whaler and I just can't find them! Can anyone tell me where I should look for these wires if I am standing at the bow looking toward the stern?

Which clock position should I be looking at (12 o'clock, 3 o'clock etc) and about how far down from the top surface of the fiberglass, more or less?

Thanks in advance - John

The wires would emerge from the hull in the starboard stern corner of the hull. If you are standing at the bow looking aft they will be at about 11:30

Along the transom on the inside edge is a "shelf" with a horizontal surface on it about 1 1/2" wide. This is where the wires come out. They will emerge about half way between the extreme corner of the hull and the beginning of the transom notch on that side of the boat.

They should really be apparent. If they are not then the hole was probably patched or covered with some piece of hardware or equipment.
