I bought a Rule 500 bilge pump with a float switch built in, and a West Marine Bilge panel, wired everything up according to the diagrams, but the pump only works in manual mode. What did I do wrong ??

Could it be that the pump will only work with a Rule switch panel, or do I have a bad float switch in the pump itself. Please help.

This may sound silly -- but did you actually test it with water?

Or can you throw the internal switch by hand?

I've got the same type pump in my Montock. Take a hose and fill up the bilge and flip the switch to auto. If you've followed the diagram for the switch and it doesn't work sounds like a trip back to the store is in order.

Don't you just love running wires through the tunnel?

I just did this last weekend w/ the same bilge pump.
I wired my electrical goodies to a fuse panel then wired switches to that.
At 1st I had the same problem too. It onl;y worked in manual, but that was because of the switch I purchased. I returned it for a coherse (sp?) 3 way switch ($15) and everything is fine. Took the boat out for the 1st time this weekend & caught some sharks :)
btw........ test it w/ water ;)
