I am planning on running a can of the de-carbon spray through my motor as discussed here before. Instructions say to run the motor at high idle and spray the entire can in it and then let it sit for 15 minutes.

Would there be a benefit to saving some spray and pulling the plugs and spraying some in from there?

Is a whole can necessarry or would I be better off repeating the treatment 50 hours (run time) later?

Any benefit to letting it sit longer?

TIA,

Jim

If you do pull the plugs and spray the cylinders, let them cool down a bit first. You do not want to shock cool an aluminum piston crown after it has just been run. Tilt the motor full up so it runs down the cylinder walls, and let it set at least an hour before firing up the motor. When you start it, you'll get smoke like you won't believe for the first 5 or ten minutes.

I just did mine about 2 weeks ago. I followed instructions on thehulltruth which were pretty close to what it said on the can:

Put motor on waterhose/muffs and get it warm. Then spray about 1/4 of the can in the carbs. If you have more than one carb use multiple cans. Spray fast enough that it almost loads up and kills the motor. Then when aprox 1/4 of the can has been sprayed, kill the motor while still spraying, or spray fast enough to load up the motor and kill it. Then wait about 30 min. Then repeat. Then take your boat to the launch, hit the water and run boat wide open. The instructions said that 2 times almost always works, but from time to time you may have to do it 3 times.
Also do not rev up your motor too high when spraying as some think the spray can thin out the oil/fuel mixture and you don't want engine under a load at that time.

Good luck,
Fletch
