Sparkplug Temperature Selection

I noticed this weekend that the recommended plug for my Suzuki DT-75 is an NGK F8HS. T
IOW, the PO of my boat stepped up a notch and put in a hotter plug. This used to a fairly common thing in cars, but I a not a 2 stroke wizard. Why would someone do it? Benefits? Potential downside? Any downside to adding the R resistor plugs?
I am going to swap the plugs out, and need to decide what to do.

While I am no expert on outboards, I can tell you in general that different plugs are for different operating styles.
On my old Yamaha RZ350, I had two choices in heat ranges. I usually ran the cooler plug because I tended to run the engine at high rpms wherever I went (that bike had a very narrow power band, and I was younger and reckless). The downside to running cooler plugs is that they had a tendancy to foul more easily when idled or run at low rpms.
I assume that the principle is the same for boats, but am interested in what others have to say about it.
