My 1985 70 Yamaha runs fine, but I discovered the connection to the oil level alarm was not connected. I reconnected it, and as soon as I started the motor, the alarm began sounding, and doesn't stop. The oil reservoir is full. I also noticed (as in a previous post) the gauge on the console which has green, orange and red lights, shows orange and/or red, but no green. I know the motor's getting enough oil, because I've been running it and whatching for any sign of overheat, etc. When idling along in gear, there's a bit of oil smoke. I cruised and trolled 7 hours yesterday without a hitch. That included a 35 minute run a 23 mph/4000 rpm without a sign of trouble. Perhaps a sending unit problem or gauge problem?

Yup! just disconnect it and forget about it. Those engines have a metal gear driven pump that runs off the crank. It will not fail you and if it does it would be too late even if alarm was hooked up. That alarm only runs the oil levels. Make sure she is always filled and enjoy.

Thanks for the reassurance BigShot. Had a hunch I was ok, but confirmation is great.
