Thinking of rebuilding all 3 of the carbs on my 84 commercial 3 cylinder evinrude 65 hp. Anybody have some suggestions on this. Looking to tackle the project myself but not to knowledgable on synching carbs.

Where's the adjustment for synchronizing the carbs? I recall fondly synchronizing the dual carbs I had on my '70 Beetle, but never have I done them on my '85 Johnson 70Hp outboard. When I've rebuilt outboard carbs, I've always just rebuilt them and installed them as they were. I never found any adjustment in the linkage between carbs to synchronize them. (one has to wonder, would it run better with them synchronized?) Do the 3 cylinder 75Hp versions have synchronized carbs?

Howdy, Shoctor.

Since each of the three carbs on that engine serves only one cylinder, it is critical that they are set up identically and perfectly synched.

It is also very important that the ignition timing is set correctly and linked to the throttle linkage.

I think that a manual would be a very modest investment and worth ten times its price.

I have been wrenching on outboards for about 50 years and wont touch an engine without a manual handy.

Good luck.

bought the manual then found water in the cylinders which was causing the problems. Thanks for the posts. Am looking into rebuilding the old evinrude now or replacing the powerhead.
