I'm relatively unfamiliar with tow insurance. It seems that most companies focus on commercial and/or large pleasure vessels - not the under 20' crowd. Is anyone able to recommend a tow company with large coverage, reasonable rates and a good reputation? Thanks.

Justin - BoatUS offers nationwide trailering roadside assistance for just $10 in addition to their annual membership fee. I figured that the $110 was well worth one at sea rescue or on road failure…. Not sure if Sea Tow offers the same deal.

No affiliation, just sleeping soundly :-)

Boat/US. National coverage, fantasic rates, and spectacular service. Every boater should join because they do more to promote boating than any other organization in the country.

Membership is $14/yr and includes a $50 towing limit. They also offer $150, $350, $500, and unlimited limits.

I would recommend at least the $150 limit, for an additional $15/yr, since most tow companies will charge that as a minimum.

This is one of the most professional organizations I have ever been associated with. Highly recommended! Check them out at:

I dont know about other places but here in south Florida, 150 dollars would only get you towed about 10 feet. I think 5 or 6 hundred is the average tow fee...go with unlimited coverage.

Justin- SeaTow is $95 per year for basic policy. Have been real happy with it. I think it boils down to just how active/good the service is via the Captain in your area.

Most of these tow services have upgraded policies for a few more dollars per year. Like covering towing the boat if it brakes down on a trailer. Or covering a 2nd boat you are piloting.

When I go thru the locks at Port Canaveral and it's a parking lot, I always shoulderup to the SeaTow boat. Figure my chances of damaging someones' boat are reduced. .03 David
