Thinking about getting used whaler and wanted to know how difficult expensive it would be to add a quality t top, for example, to a 23 foot outrage if it does not come with one from the factory. thanks ron

I've priced T-Tops for my 21 Outrage. It seems that everytime I price one the cost is $1500.

Just make sure you get a 23 Outrage wood locating diagram to the maker of the T-top. Though many people out there make nice tops, they don't know about bolting them to boats to well. They tend to just bolt them where they fit since most hulls are re-inforced like Whalers.

If Whaler offered a T-Top for the boat, then it is likely that there will be proper embedded backing material to secure a T-Top.

If there was not a factory option T-Top available, then you should investigate carefully the situation with respect to embedded material in the deck for attaching the T-Top.

As mentioned by Tully Mars, a pipe-fitter/welder of custom T-Tops may not be familiar with the constraints of mounting them on a hull where you cannot get access to the back side of the deck to add reinforcements.
