I was wondering if anyone has mounted downriggers on a 13 footer? I'd like to add some to mine but I don't want to drill through the hull. Has anyone found a clean installation process which doesn't require drilling in to the hull?

Thanks for your help.

I use rail mount Scotty units on mine.
So far so good. I did well on Lake Washington on the Sockeye this summer. I have ony used 4lb balls that seems to be fine on the lake.

Dan, I'm emailing you some pictures and diagram of my setup. I built brackets to moun my Canon mounts to and attached them to my side rails.

I use Scotty electrics, 10 lb weight, mounted on the rails of my Dauntless 14. Dick made me a set of beautiful supports. The downriggers work great and can be removed fairly easily.

Maybe Dick will jump in and post pics he has of his.

Have you already bought your downriggers? If so, what kind. If not, what kind are you looking at?

Dick - I'd really appreciate it if you would email me the pics as well. I've been wanting to do something with downriggers on my Montauk too. I botched my email address when registering (Jim - any advice on how to change it? Thanks.) Correct address

Any way I can get a copy of those pictures too, or from one of you guys who he sent them to. Am thinking of incorporating downriggers into the renovation of my '69 13'er. Any help/ideas would be appreciated. world2xplor

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. I think I will go with the Scotty rail mount downriggers. The installation seems pretty straight forward.

Thanks again,

Take a look at the Cannon rail mounts. After considering the Scotty's, I went with the Canon mounts on my Montauk rail. They are black anodized machined aluminum, and they clamp across the top of the rail centered on the T fitting above the center vertical support. It is very solid, and has a low profile so it fits under my mooring cover, even with the swivel base attached. Of course, if you already have a downrigger, get the mount made by the same manufacturer. The bolt patterns are not the same, and it would be difficult to adapt either one to fit the other.

I put the Scottie "long arm" package on my 25'Outrage and love it... 360 degree swivel is really nice. You easy do the same with the rail mount.

You can extend to 60 inches which makes for engine free running.

FYI... A rig with a closed drum would be nice (the electric drives have these I think)... for mine, if your not careful, the wire will tend to spool under the drum and around the mount.. messy at times.

Easy ! This worked great for me.

Buy and mount "Lee's Rod Holders" on the rails of your boat.

Buy and mount gimble mount brackets for your downriggers.

When you are ready to use them simply slide them in. Easy to remove also.

This worked great for me on my Montauk.

I have a 13' Super-Sport, and am looking into installing some downriggers. Can someone send me some photos of downrigger installations that would work on this model??

Thank You

I'll send you some pictures of the mounts on my Montauk. They should work on your boat as well.

I only live up the road in Shoreline so let me know if you want to take a look in person.
