I have a 1979 15-Striper with original console. The black contact sheet that cosmetically enhances the top of the console is deteriorated. Anybody have any source ideas. It appears that it was originally glued on.

I have the same on my LES, I think I will just peel it off, clean the area with mineral spirits and press on with pride. If I were to replace it I think I would look for some nice vinyl at an upholstery shop and glue it on.

I used a teak veneer which had 3M adhesive already on , just peel and stick. Purchased from Woodworkers Supply. Made bends good , the veneer i believe is about 10 mils thick. Covered with several coats of varnish, lookes excellent, nice upgrade. The price is about $80.00 for a 2'x8' piece of teak. Other woods are also available. I think i may have some left over that could do some more if any interest.

I took mine off and buffed it out. Looks better but stuff slid. I think the teak idea would be great.

Try Kydex. It is a plastic with textured surface that is makes the dash look great.

I used it on Montauk '81 console and it is great.

Check with Laird Plastics as they distribute this product and many others including starboard.

Also try 1/4" Black Starboard, it is nice too.
