Many people on this site have requested a pdf file of the sakonet coonsole plans. Aquick caution about the plans.

Be very careful on the lower console measurements. The width on the front section is short by 1/8-3/16 in width versus the width of the top/shelf of the lower console. I learned this after drilling and dry fitting. Thankfully I added a front seat which will allow me to add a spacer to fill in this area. Let me know if anyone else has found a similar problem with the plans or did I just measure wrong?

Thanks for the head's up. The plans are original Whaler drawings, so this must have been caught in production at some point.

I have not started to build a new console yet, but will print the drawings out and confirm the dimension bust.

hi,

i believe there were two different console sizes for the 16 footers. the sakonnet console was a different size to accomodate the front casting platform.

I used the drawings to build a new lower section for the original Nauset console. Measurements seemed OK although I reconfigured to make the lower section out of 3/4" ply instead of 1/2".

One thing I would change if I could do it over again. I would definitely make the lower section about 3 or 4 inches taller. It would make it much easier to manipulate changing the gas tanks and the effect on the overall height of the console would make it much easier on your back when running standing up.
