I have a late 80s 18ft outrage with a Johnson 150. I am thinking about changing out the cable steering for something better, easier to turn. What is best for this era of boat and and what brand of steering is the better choice?

I think that the best you can get is the Teleflex Sea Star hydraulic system.
A complete system lists for $800.00+ but can be found discounted.
You will get feedback touting a side mount cylinder vs the center mount. Whichever you choose you will have a smooth efortless steering system.

Teleflex hydraulic steering is the way to go. Before buying get a price quote from Shoreway Marine; it will save you money.
