I have a recently rebuilt Johnson 225hp 1986. It has run strong for 2 seasons. Recently it began to immediately lose power and stall off plane. It will idle fine and then go full bore again and may not do this again until the next day. It may run for a week and then suddenly lose power. I have checked the filters and even changed filters. I run a Rancor with water separator. I also have an OMC TYPE water separating filter. It has acted this way on either filter. I'm thinking it may be electrical but it acts like it dumps at least 3 or 4 cyls. at full throttle but idles on all 6. I pumped the fuel bulb hard while it was losing power and it made no effect at all. Anybody have any thoughts? I had a similar problem on my older Evin. 175 and replaced the sensor ring that controls the firing of the plugs. It is located interior to the stator. My current problem does not act quite like that problem. Thanks for any advice.

I had the same problem on my Ocean Pro 200. It was an intermittant problem. The Powerpack was the culprit. It would drop three cylinders. I'll give you a very valuable tip, take it to a mechanic you know and can trust. My father in law had a similar type problem and ended up rebuilding all 6 carbs, replacing the powerpack and stator before finding out it was a problem with the timer base. He could have saved himself about $750 if he used a trustworthy mechanic who has the tools to test these items.

Check your warning horn while you're at it. If it's any problem with overheating or fuel restriction the horn should tell you.
