I plan to replace the center console on a 73 17' Montauk - can anyone who has done this recommend a console vendor? (besides BW..their prices is very high).

thanks.

Are you looking for a wood or fiberglass replacement. Fiberglass can get from boat us or west marine the wood can build yourself or order but it is very expensive to order would suggest building yourself for fraction of the cost and will also have some pride in the completed project

I replaced the console on my newport to the Montauk, I decided to go original, which cost me about $590, tax and shipping included, from my local whaler dealer. I could of had it delivered to my house if wanted at the same price...

Hope this helps.

Have a good one.

DAve...

Some clarification is needed.

You have a 1973-MONTAUK with a wooden center console? The MONTAUK model came out in 1974 with a molded center console.

Are you certain your Whaler is a MONTAUK?

Jim - you are right the boat is actually a 17' Nauset. Sorry for the confusion.

I replaced the console on my '65 16' with a Carolina Skiff large console W/S and grab rail for less than $400. Had tio shim under the front to accomdate for the floor but it has worked out with no complaints other than I did not separate the wheel and shiff control enough.

What is a "W/S"?

My dictionary lists "W.S." as an abbreviation for West Saxon, but that does not make much sense in this context.

jimh,
Correct W.S. is an abbreviation for West Saxon but,,,,W(slash)S stands for Windshield.!
