I've got a '67 Nauset with original console. Looking to create grab rails on the wood console, and/or windshield. Anybody got any ideas/pictures? I will eventually replace the windshield on the console. I'd like the grabrails to be wood, but do you recommend stainless? I've seen a stainless rail modification, somewhere. Couldn't find it it Cetecea.

If you can do it, make the grabrails out of stainless tubing. The tubing will require zero maintainence once it is installed. Since I couldn't find a used Katama grabrail, I am going to have a stainless grab rail made for my Minot console and after some searching, I found these guys:
They are in Annapolis and will make anything out of stainless tubing. Richard will even meet you at the shop on a Saturday or Sunday morning to discuss the job if need be.
On the Nauset, I would fashion the rail after that on the older OR boats. I would attach it to the sides of the console at the aft edges and bring it up, around and slightly above the windshield top.

Thank you. I've seen something like what you describe. Hoping to keep the classic look of wood. Is strength a problem with wood?

After searching hi and low for console guards for my dual console 17 SSL Whaler, I settled on SS and right elbows, securing the inch piping to the sides with standard rail fittings. It works and I ride standing up and holding on. I'll email a pix.
