I am adding an Atwood Sahara Automatic 500 GPH Bilge pump to my 78’ Montauk. I had in the past added a Starboard plastic cover to the sump to cover it up to keep my 2 year old from tripping on it. There is not very much room down there for this pump and now know that I will have to make my cover smaller. Does anyone have a picture of the bilge pump setup from their Montauk and a picture of their sump cover and how they routed their cables and stuff around this pump in such a very small space, and then still be able to add a plug into the drain or do you plug the drain on the outside of the transom? I really would appreciate any help and thanks. I only want to do this once. My concern was once how to route the drain hose but now that is the least of my concerns. I was also thinking of wiring the auto wire straight to the battery and the other to the switch. Thanks a lot. Archie

I put a Rule 5500 in the sump w/ marine tex. It held well. the cables fit next to the pump. I also wired it direct to battery. The rule cycles , if it detects h2o it stays on. Battery never discharged. Had Newport in slip for 3.5 months.

Used marine tex in order to not drill holes. The pump snaps into the Screen holder that is Marine texed

Acassidy:

I can e-mail you pictures of my set up if you want. Basically, I have a Rule 500 automatic.Instead of wiring the "auto" wire straight to the battery, I use a three position dash switch. Off-auto-on. Clear tubing is helpful so you can see when the bilge is empty. In addition, I replaced the sump cover with clear (smoked) acrilic. All the control cables and wiring fit just fine. I put the drain plug on the outside.
