Just wanted to say thank you all for the help so far. I am still quite new to all of this and the help has been more than I ever imagined. I am looking to put a rear bench seat in my 1967 Nauset, but would like to know where the best/cheapest place that I could purchase a seat. Also, how much of a project am I looking at in order to install it myself? Or should I save that job for a professional? Once again, any and all help is greatly welcomed.

Are you looking for a bench seat that goes in the stern of the boat or are you looking for a rear facing bench that is attached to the helm seat?

The previous owner of my boat made a rear facing seat which is mounted to the back of the wooden helm seat. It easily seats 2 people and would be very easy to build. I think you can see in the Minot pictures on Cetacea page 33.

Ron,
Hey, sorry I didn't specify. I'm looking to put a bench seat in at the stern of the boat. I've got a cooler that I may make into a seat at the rear of the helm. The more I think about it, the more of a project it's becoming.

Ahoy, Lost.. .

I suggest that you check the wood location diagram for the 16.6' hull before you think about mounting a seat. If you don't have a wood backing to anchor it to, you will regret trying it.

Good luck.

It was quite common for Boston Whaler to install an aft bench in the 16, which would turn a Nauset into an Eastport. It was a slatted affair, with a back and supports behind and underneath it, the center support mounted to the floor. There may be photos of it on Cetacea, and I have a 3 X 5 of one in Maryland that I could try to email to you. Let me know. It may take a couple of days for me to dig it up.

I have an Eastport and have a copy of the original plans for the stern seat which I received from another member. I'll send you a copy.
