I've recently purchased a 17' 1996 montauk and it's my first whaler. Love the boat so far! However with the tube down the center which seems to always have an inch or two of water in it that the auto bilge pump doesn't suck out, do I have to ever worry about water leaking around the tube or around the bilge pump mounting screws and into the foam area? Also with the hole in the deck where the gas line goes into the tube, do I have to worry about that area ever leaking water into the foam area?

Yes it is a worry but no you do not nor should not worry about least for another 15 years or so.

Matt - the area around your bilge pump should be fine, assuming that the screws and all joints were properly sealed. If you believe that a sealant was not used, remove it and using a good sealant (3M or pliable silicon), remount it.

I have an Outrage and do not have access to a montauk. You should be alright if the deck penetration and tube area are fully enclosed with glass. Perhaps some with knowledge of the montauk, such as Tom Clark, can provide the help you need. --- Jerry/Idaho
