Since its become difficult/expensive to locate OEM replacement hardware, such as the bow light unit for older Montauk's, has anyone tried this? They do it for car restorations, and if the part is in good shape, should work for marine parts as well.

Had the bow light and the transom eyes done on my 13' (4) years ago. The transom eyes held up real well but a pretty good layer of chrome came off the bow light. It was definitely cheaper than buying new hardware and looked great for the first couple of years. I operate in saltwater. I think if you use a good shop, you should get good performance. The guy I used was on the cheap side and I think the layer that came off proved that. To save some money, bring your parts in disassembled. Good Luck.
