1974 21' Revenge in good shape and needs some cosmetic work but the gas tank in the hull has been "condemned" and out of use. The boat has twin 85 Yami's and 36 gallons from the external tanks leaves me wanting more in the way of range. Would it be possible to replace the floor tank? The floor is one solid piece with no panels to remove like on the OR and others. The gas tank appears to be glass also but I'm completely unfamiliar with this model. Would it be possible to say cut the floor to expose the tank and place a new smaller aluminum tank inside the original. How would this affect the structural integrity of the boat? How much space is between the hull and the original tank? I'm considering purchasing this project but need some help on where to turn for this part of the project. Talk about some serious potential for this beauty! Would a pro glass man be able to make a repair like this or would it be better to just let the sleeping dog lie? Appreciate the help on other questions! Great board!

Luis -

I've never heard of a model that had a fully glassed in, unable to open, fuel tank cavity. And until your post, never heard of a fiberglass tank used by the factory in a model either. If you can't open the tank cavity, how can you tell that there is a fiberglass tank inside the cavity. Or, is it possible that a previous owner took out a bad tank, sealed the tank cavity and the cavity itself is the tank? That's very odd if it's factory. There was no difference between the revenge and outrage models lower hull in that series, only the skin above the rubrail. I've got a '73 Outrage, and replaced the tank. Florida Tanks still make them....40 gallon.

My 74 revenge had a factory aluminum tank.....still does. You had access panels on the 19'. No screws I think, it was just held in with adhesive.

Thanks guys, glad I asked.
I looked at it again and the entire floor has been recovered with what feels like a hard "rhino liner type" coating. So I guess the original panels were covered up.
Are there any links to pictures/drawings of what the floor area should look like in this model. I replaced a floor aluminum tank last yr on my 17 OR and this floor looks nothing like it. Hmmm.
Just before the splashwell, is a round edged "bubble like" area that appears to have been part of the original tank area.

I know this all sounds odd but it is an older boat and if I bought it I wouldn't want to harm the structural integrity of the boat by cutting into the floor. Does anyone think this would be OK? If nothing else, to see what's under there and what happened to the oringinal tank.
Do any cables/wires pass under the floor of this model boat. I have found the steering and motor cables under the starboard gunwale. Thanks again for the help!

Luis,

Don and Nick are correct. Your boat originally had or has a 40 gallon aluminum fuel tank. It sits in a recessed cavity in the bottom of your hull covered by a fiberglass over plywood cover that is fitted flush with the floor. You will need to identify the outline of the fuel tank cover and expose the seam in order to exhume the tank.

Florida Maine Tanks http:www.floridamarinetanks.com can supply you with the replacement.

Don - Jim Gibson's 1992 19 Outrage II has a tank completely inaccessible under the third liner shell. The interior would have to be cut (basically destroyed) to remove or service the tank, or the entire interior liner mold would have to be removed from the boat. One of the worst details I have seen on a BW/Reebock era Whaler.
Can't imagine what they were thinking.

Ihg,
Is that liner made of fiberglass?. The one on this one looks to be made of some kind of hard "rhino" type liner. The cap to the gas tank access is BW OEM. Whther this is original or the owner covered, it himself I agree that it is a bad design.
