I put brand new teak on my boat, and I didn't put anything on it this year because it was fresh and i wanted the sun to bake all the oils out. What is good to dress it up with? Decks olay is supposed to be good? What do you think?

Bugsy: Do a search over the last 2 years in this section and you are going to find all of the information you need. This has been covered quite a bit in the last several months.

Not sure why you wanted to "bake all the oils out." It is the natural oils in the teak that are its preservative. You will just be putting them back when you apply the finish.

As to your question about "dressing," I think that Amazon Teak Oil is a very good product and have used it for years. However, this past season I was intorduced to Daly's Seafin. I am not yet able to say that it is a superior product (I want to give it one more test this season), but all things at this point sure do indicate it is.

Also, teak oil or any other finish is not dressing. It is put on the wood to protect it from the elements like salt, and UV.

Ahoy, Bugsy.

Perhaps not exotic enough for some, but I have had excellent results with Star Brite products.

I used Star Brite Teak Cleaner, followed by Star Brite Teak Brightener, and finally Star brite Extra Gold Teak Oil.

That was 2 years ago and the teak still looks great.

Thanks for all your supports!!! I heard that Star bright is good. To get where i am going, I cleaned and brightened the teak and sanded it Before it went in with all the electronics and stuff.

Bugsy, if you're going to oil I've read good things about Starbrite Premium Golden Teak Oil. If you want to varnish then I have read that Epifanes Wood Finish is excellent. In terms of the "other" finishes, Cetol is tops in the semi-gloss category, while Honey Teak and Bristol Finish give excellent gloss finishes.
