I am just learn to weld and would like to find out where to get 2 to 6inch dia stainless or alumin. tubing. I am going to built a tow post for a friend. Is there a place to buy tow post already made?

Don't know where you are from, but most any larger city will have an industrial metal supply that carries SS tubing. Look on the internet or Yellow Pages. This stuff is usually stocked in 20 or 21 foot sticks. Most places will sell it by the foot with an extra cut charge.

Most of the tow posts I have seen are made of 6061-T6 aluminum pipe. It takes an experienced person to design, fabricate, and install a tow post correctly. I have never seen an off-the-shelf unit. They are designed to fit a specific hull and are made to order. The other problem with fabricating a tow post is the liability issue. A tow post is subjected to high stress loads while towing. If it breaks and injures someone or damages a vessel, the fabricator may be found liable. It is only my opinion, but this job should be handled by an experienced person with liability insurance.

Welding aluminum takes special equipment and special knowlege. If you have it, great. If not, be careful.
