Does anyone have any suggestions on raising the back bench seat on the 13? The idea i am thinking about would require replacing the side pieces.

You could raise it 4 inches by mounting it on top of the clamps instead of under them. BW did this on some of the 15s. If you wanted it to look better, cut notches for the bench to drop into, but then you only get about 3" in height.

I just built an interior from scratch for my thirteen. I am 6'2" and the traditional interior puts my knees up at my chin.....So I routed slots for the rear seat, raising it four inches. I also raised the front seat three inches just for appearances. Since the rear seat needs to not flex as much as it does in the traditional mounting (full floating, just sitting on the molded ledge) I glued and screwed it in place and put a stiffening rail (3" wide) under it. My side rails are a little wider than the original in order to accomodate this modification. I am putting the final coats of finish on it and getting ready to mount hardware....Dave
ps..if you have any further interest in how mine is made email me direct.

On my 1981 13 Sport, I did the same raise job with some mods. I just places the bench seat on the side wood clamp, and screwed it down to eliminate sliding off. I also added a center support made from the same Mahogany as the bench, and secured it the way the console leg is secured to the floor. Battery on one side, 6 gallon steel tank on the other. SWEET!

What are wood clamps? I know my 13 has an upper and lower grove on both the port and starboard side of the cockpit. My bench seat presently rests on the lower of the two and I have considered raising it two the upper grove. Someone once told me the upper grove didn't have the re-inforcement to support bench seat resting on it.
