Today I attempted to install a SeaStar 5345 on a 1995 Evinrude 88SPL. I followed all the directions and then lo-and-behold the damn thing wont fit. We tried every possible way to no avail. According to the installation manual it is the proper unit for the motor, or at least any Evinrude 40-250hp made after 1991, except our 88SPL. Has anyone else had this problem, please help? The company in Canada is closed till Monday.

There is the triangular plate that pivots on the top of the unit that also mounts to the tiller arm. This piece does not match any of the holes in the tiller arm. We tried every possible way of mounting to no avail... The only possibilities I have come up with are that the wrong bracket was installed or that our Evinrude came with a non spec tiller arm. The arm we have has two holes, neither of which works.

From what I understand, the difference between the 5345 and the other cylinders is the way that they attach to the tiller arm. Teleflex will gladly change the tiller arm adapter free of charge if you ever change your engine and require a different model.

I would suggest sending an email to teleflex customer service describing your fitting, they are great and will be able to tell you if you have the wrong adapter.

Thanks much for the pics. I can see that our units are essentially the same but different. The rod through the motor pivot is the same as are the arms attaching to the hydrauliic ram, but that is where the similarities end. On our unit the hydraulic unit has a triangular, pivoting mounting plate and the hydraulic fittings are on the front of the unit with bleed valves directly above them. Thanks again, I will try and get some pics of our unit and forward them on and also let you know what teleflex has to say...
