I'm getting ready to bow-mount a trolling motor on my 15' Sport Whaler. Anybody got any do's/don'ts, tips? What's the best method of anchoring the mount to the deck? What about sealing the internal wooden plate in the deck against water?

If you are cognative of the wood reinforcement and the need to seal the screws you are on the right track.
Good Luck
Jim

Thanks, Jim. My motor came in yesterday, so by the weekend I'll have it mounted.

on one of the front corner pads (non-skid). I can clearly see where the previous owner had his trolling motor mounted. Using the wood diagram, you should be safe there... I bought the boat without the trolling motor.

I used anchor bolts similar to the ones for dry wall. Epoxy sealed around the edges. Then used rubber (thick) washers between the fiberglass and the trolling motor for cushon. Mine is the striper version so it already has the front pedistal seat. I use a foot controlled OMC.

I installed a MinnKota on my 15GLS and only mounted it with three bolts, two with hollow SS anchors from West Marine and the front one through the front of the boat right behind the rubrail. Front bolt was counter sunk bolt underneath with bolt going up. Worked great for three years and hit all kinds of oyster beds and stuff, never moved.

If anyone has pictures and details of their trolling motor mounted on their boat, I'd love to see them. I'm thinking of putting one on my 15' this spring.

Anyone had any luck putting a bow mounted trolling motor on a 15' super sport? If so, I'd like to know what brand, shaft length, installation details ...etc.

I contacted Minn Kota and they told me I needed to pull the bow rail off. I'd really like the convenience of a bow mounted motor but pulling the rail off sounds a little extreme.

Thanks,

Dan

15 Footer, could you post some pictures and give us some tips or list any problems that
you encountered when mounting your trolling motor ? Also, what brand and lb thrust did you go with ? I have been thinking of mounting one on mine and could use some tips. Thanks.
