Hello, I have a Sakonnet with its famous center console. I want to find and instal a fiberglass one from a Montauk {new or used}.
Whats the deal? Has anyone done it?Possible? Any help or info would be great! Thanks in advance.

I have a 68 that was originally a Nauset. My Dad installed the (then) current Montauk fiberglas console in 1985 or so.

The fit is fine and the newer consoles will work for you. I can email you some pics if you like. Since I did not do the work on mine I have no experience in the best way to install it. I am sure others here can assist.

Your Sakonnet is a classic among classics. If your console is in bad shape there is one, with a nauset seat, on Ebay.

I love to see a classic boat kept original.

Yes, it is nice to keep it the way it is. The console is a 8 out of 10. Very nice shape as it has been well looked after. I am with the Coast Guard. I run around in the 24ft Zodiac's serch & rescue boats all day jumpin waves at 50 knots up here off Vancouver Island. Then I get into my BW and run it in the same waters. So my concern it that this old great looking console might just split apart with its lack of strength over fiberglass. The rest of the boat holds up very well. It is powered with a 1996 Johnson Commercial 100 hp. It handles and clips along very well. The other issue is that the fuel tank is an older metal Tempo LPT12. It fits perfectly under the console!{I want another but cant find one}. A new console may not have the clearence for this large tank. I will have to deal with that one latter.
Thanks all for your input so far!
