Hi there,

I have a 1986 20'outrage and am trying to repair a small nick on the outside of the hull. I'm unsure which kit to purchase from spectrum. Is it the Haze grey or the Navy grey? The hull looks white to me. Thanks Brett

Have you tried calling Spectrum? If you tell them your model year, they can probably discern the color after a few questions.

Brett,

Although it may not look like it, you want Desert Tan, 1972 - 1993.

Your boat was molded with Desert Tan for both the inside and the outside skins. However, sunlight and fading will bleach out the color of the gel coat with time. You may have to add some white to the gel coat to lighten it up a bit.

I went through all of this on my own 1983 Outrage 18 and was convinced the inside and outside were two different colors. This is not the case with the 18 and larger hulls.

On the 16' 7" and smaller hulls built from 1972 to 1984, the insides were Desert Tan but the outsides were Light Grey, 1972-1984 (Whaler calls this color Outrage Grey).

Brett,
After applying and wet sanding your spectrum repair with about 400 grit, polish the boat or at least the area repaired and you'll be amazed how well the repair will blend. Kevin
