Topic: Rigging a windshield wiper to a center console wind screen

I have a center console with a fairly large Plexiglas windscreen. I was out in the fog once and the screen was very wet and I could not see through it. I was thinking at the time: “It would sure be nice if this screen had a wiper." Has this ever been done to a CC before or is it a stupid idea? A wiper sure would have come in handy that day.

Problem is it will scratch the plexi. 2nd problem is you will most like ly need to mount it inside the console or to the rail above the windscreen. 3rd problem is the next time you need to use it the damn thing won't work or the blade will be rotted from sunlight and you will wish you had one that worked.Wipers and sternlights.....NEVER work when you need them. |

This would seem to be an appropriate use for Rain-X, but you might want to test it on a hidden (or non-obvious) part of the windshield to see whether it works properly. |

Yeah. Anyone every see a boat windshield wiper that worked? It's like trusting the clocks in cars built before '70. |

Since he brought it up, Ah'll modify Biggy's pernt about stern lights. Clean or replace both the connectors on your stern light. Then dob a bit of Vazeline inside and on all the copper/brass of the connectors. That means on the li'l set screws, as well, before you put them into the holes. Helps if they've got rubber covers on both ends, t'keep out most of the spray. Do this grease job couple times a year. Also helps t'pull the bulb durin' each greazin' and lightly sand the ends, wipe the socket ends out with sand paper and lightly greaze the connection pernts there, too. Doin' this, mah stern light friggin' always woiks, no kiddin'. Like an ole gal Ah once knew used t'say, "No sense goin' out at night widdout givin' others a chance t'admire your backside." |

Thanks guys for giving me the benefit of your experience and help me correct the errors in my thinking. That’s probably why they don’t offer wipers on CCs in the first place. I will give Rain-X a try though; it works in my shower. Maybe next time I will have someone sit in the console front seat with a squeegee. |

Rain-X will work well on your plexiglass windshield, I've used it for years.Incidentally, the wipers on my father's 1969 35' Chris Craft have worked flawlessly since he bought the boat 16 years ago. To my knowledge they have never been worked on (other than blades) since new. Too bad they don't make things like that anymore. |
