Seriously, as I think of all the beverage cans (ok, beer!) spilt on my Newport Console last year, I definitly need to add a couple can holders. I hate to clutter up the horizontal surface with the gimbalized can-buddy things. If I have to, I will. I have the steering wheel, controls, fish-finder, compass and assorted knives, lures, etc. Anybody have holders mounted there? Recommendations?

get a teak or plastic double that mounts on the console $15-25. You can also cut the console and flush mount a couple. |

Try the rubber cup holders, its a one peice holder with a flared bottom/suction cup. They work great and can be moved around. $6.00 each.(You gotta see the thread about the teak "bong holder" someone sugguested in another thread...everytime I set something on my console I giggle.) |

I agree that a drinkholder or two is essential. I prefer the fold out style, in black plastic, sized to carry a can in a foam sleeve. Mine are mounted on each side of the console, just in front of the console rail. This way you won't hit them with your knees, and they are out of the way for piloting the boat, and don't take up console top surface space. My installation can be seen in the console photo, Cetacea Page 2. One is folded out for use, and one is shown folded up. |

I have just made a custom mahogany drink holder for my new console (17' - 1968). It is just a two holer sized to fit coolie cups just right. Another design I've come up with has a rectangular hole in the middle for portable phone and/or GPS.I'll be making extras for sale! Also, I'm setting up a website for my Whaler renovation where I'll have photos of the cup holder and drawings showing the various designs. I'll post the site here and elsewhere by Saturday 3/15/03.
