I own a NAUSET in need of a new 90-HP engine. Is a four stroke going to be too heavy? How about a 90-HP Evinrude Ficht or the new E-tech? I love Mercury, too,but can't decided on a 4 or 2 stroke either. To many chooses - need ideas!

If you can wait until July then I would say go with the 90 E-TEC. It will be something great, but it does not come out until this summer. Other wise, tons of people that know their stuff swear by the 70 Johnson/Suzuki 4 stroke on your hull.

Thanks cb

- I agree, even though most dealers in northern Michigan haven't even heard of this engine yet. Some say, boomadear [Bombardier?] is very slow to keep dealers informed.

Do you like the 90 ficht? I can buy a 2002 model at a reasonalble price.

In general the subject of repowering is most often discussed in the PERFORMANCE forum. You'll find many articles on this topic in that area.

The 90 fitch built by Bombadier is an amazing motor. They really turned OMC around. I like the motor alot and it is one of the most powerful motors that you can put the 17 hull. I do not know if you need that much power. I would stick within the 70-90 hp range. The EFI MERC four strokes are also great motors built with yamaha hand and hand. For your hull, I would try to keep the outboard motor weight to min. it is not a big problem but the boat will sit better and you will be happier with the lighter motor. Having said that, I would not go with a 2 stroke unless it was a DI. The regular 2 strokes are great motors, but it just feel great to have one of the technological wonders on the back, plus the new engine are SO quiet and fuel economic. I would also not go with 90 optimax or the 75 yamaha 4 stroke because of the weight. I would also look at the 90 Tohasu lpdi because of the weight and the tecnology is mercs. So IMO for your hull it is down to (in order) the 90 ETEC, 90 Fitch, 70 Johnson/suzuki 4 stroke, or 90 tohatsu lpdi. This is just my opinion. Also check out www.edsmarinesuperstore.com, the lowest prices and no taxes. Even if you dont order from them it is funny to bring the numbers with you to your dealer.
