Oops, I did it! Drilled and mounted two swivel seats onto rear mahogony thwart seat. After two boat trips the mahogony split down the center. If I replace with mahogony, how do I prevent this from happening again?

What about just reinforcing the present seat? |

Since the seat is trashed (OK) take the swivel seats off, cut a piece of 1/2 marine plywood the width and lenght of the thwart seat. Glue the mahogany back together then glue and bolt the plywood and seats to the mahogany. Why replace $50 dollars of wood so it can crack again? Jim |
