Jon,

The purpose of the forum is to exchange in public information about classic Boston Whaler boats. Your solicitation to have responses emailed to you in private is not in keeping with the purpose of the forum. I strongly discourage such requests.

There is a great deal of information about rub rails contained in an article in the REFERENCE section. You need only to read it to acquire the information you seek.

You will have to go through a Whaler dealer.
Part #500-05005 is the 3 piece kit.
Part #500-05017 is the newer heavy duty kit.

Dick,

Thanks for posting those part numbers. I will add them to the Reference article.

A couple of questions that I couldn't find the answers for in the reference article. What is the difference between the regular kit and the 'newer heavy duty' one. Can either one be easily installed on a 1988 Newport? Does any one know whether the black rubrail in these kits leaves marks. When I nestle up to my sailboat with my OEM rubrail, it leaves nasty black marks on the gelcoat. Thanks in advance for any help.

The newer heavy duty rub rail is the same one as used on the CPD boats. It is black but I don't know if it will leave marks.

Is the replacement rail long enough to wrap around the stern of the boat and cover up the green line? Would the three piece unit allow this type of installation?

The rub rail kits are long enough to exactly replace the original.

The local supplier of whaler stuff in Charleston is telling me that I can't put a new "heavy-duty" black rub rail on my 1980 montauk. Is this correct? He also encourages me not to attempt the rub-rail installation my-self.
