Hello there:
Other than the 70 having 3 cylinders and the 60 2, do you think there is a large difference in performance on my old 1964 Nauset? The engine year is 1981 and in good condition. Thank you for any feedback.

Hi, Wayneman.

Evinrude also made 3 and 4 cylinder 60HP engines.

The 3 cylinder, 70HP looper should show a lot more torque than the 2 cylinder, 60HP looper, and about 5mph more top end.

I considered the 70 the perfect engine for a 16-17 Whaler until the JohnnyZukiRude 70 4 stroke came along.

It will be fine but probably about 3-4mph slower than the 70.

I would think the 2 cyl 60 would weigh less? Better fuel mileage? Also, a 2cyl should troll slower than a 3 cyl, a big plus in my book :) Jack.

The 60 2 cylinder is very close to a new 50 hp. The 40,50,60 2 cylinder omcs were the same and the 60 have not been made for a while.

Saw a '98 Rude 60hp 2 weeks ago, next to a '93 70hp rude. Looked like they used same block . It was a 3 cylinder.

Yes they are.....after 1985 or 1986 when they changed the 60hp to a 3cyl.
