Re-finishing the teak on my '89 Outrage, I of course removed all the rod holders and SS including the long accent stainless steel strips on top of the gunwale running down both sides. Unfortunately, while handling the starboard side, the strip broke at a corroded screw hole--pretty much right in half. Any ideas on how to find or construct a replacement? Thanks

TACO makes the only replacement stainless steel chafe strip I've managed to find, but they don't market directly; you have to buy their products through a distributor, and West Marine is one of those.

I think what you're looking for is 3/4" hollow-back and the problem I ran across when I purchased some of it for the coaming extension on the gunwales of my Outrage 22, was that TACO wouldn't make custom lengths with finished ends. So I wound up buying a couple of 6' lengths and a 1' long finished end for each end of each piece. It wound up being 8' long (with two pretty neat joints on each strip), and that was OK for my 22. You didn't mention which Outrage you have; if it's an 18, you might have to cut the 6' strip down accordingly so when you add the end pieces, you have the length you want.

I'd be *very* interested if you find a source that can (will) supply that chafe strip in custom lengths *with* finished ends.

Please keep us posted.
