Please refer to the 2 pics with the small gelcoat chipping/cracking near the waterline.

How is this fixed?

Thank you, Ed

That should read "How", not "You"

Proper preperation prevents poor performance.

The Clark article on repairs covers all the steps. The question is how many of them you need to use.

The thing that would concern me is the semi-circular fracture patterns of the cracks.

Do you know what you hit and if there is any hidden damage? The hidden damage may be worse than the minor surface cracking.

Dr T,

The damage was from the loading of the boat on my trailer for the first time. The (bunk only) trailer had not been adjusted to the boat, so when it was loaded, the side of the boat hit the trailer's fender. The impact was very mild, but the gel coat did crack.

I can't imagine I'd have to grind down the gel coat and build it back up to complete this repair???

Thanks, Ed

What is the access panel for?

I had a similar platform on my 18'(only on the starboard side) and it too cracked the gelcoat like yours did. I took it off, as it wasn't that easy to get out of the water with the dinky step. I installed a removable stainless garelick ladder instead, much better I will gelcoat over the repaired holes someday.
