Old cooler seat on the Montauk is off to the big Montauk in the sky. Unfortunately, looks like Coleman doesn't make the same size anymore. Any suggestions on the best cooler to buy? Boat's an 1986 Newtauk (Newport hull with Montauk center console).

Hi, Jay.If you had a Coleman cooler it was an aftermarket addition. Correct coolers for that model were 78 or 94Qt. Igloo Marine models. They sat up on Mahogany cleat/risers to make them clear the inner hull rise. Correct color and material snap-on cushions are available from several sources. Red sky at night. . . JB |

Jay, My girlfriend bought the whole cooler kit from Boston Whaler for my birthday. 400.00 dollars!. Included: 72 qt. cooler, cushion, Chocks and hardware and bungy mounts. The quality of the cushion was lousy. I returned it cus all I needed was a cooler. The 86qt Igloo is the orignal and not made anymore. The 92qt fits well after moving the chocks which needed refinishing anyway. I find the size perfect for two people sitting on it. Kelly |

No modern Igloo will fit the old chocks. Been there three times, so plan to fab some new ones. Just measure and buy the cooler that looks right to you. I've used an Igloee Marine 94qt. for some years in front of the standard Whaler small CC in both Montauk and O/R 18' models. Daves Custom Upholstery last charged me $140.00 for a 94qt cooler cushion, in the Whaler tan w/black piping vinyl scheme, in 1999. Call them at (321) 267-7028. Halls might equal their work (I've not seen a Halls example), but in no way could they better it. The foam is very firm and wrapped with an interior visqueen bag, inside the vinyl cover and the whole exactly duplicates the original old cushions. My understanding is that if the hull was built in Edgewater, FL, the cushions were likely manufactured nearby by Daves in Titusville, FL. They work for Brunswick/Whaler still. |

I have a 13,17 and 22. The Igloo 72 is the original cooler on the 22 Outrage. I also put a 72 on the Montauk. It fits great needing no chocks. You can get a cushion for about 20 Bucks. If you want an original BW cushion I know where you can get one. Igloo does not make a 78. |

Fred,I don't know what year your Outrage 22 is, but from the 1980's Accesories and Options catalogs, the Original cooler in all 1980's Montauks and Outrages was the 86 qt Igloo... There was an option for the 128 qt igloo cooler for the Outrages. They don't make the 86 qt anymore but the 94 qt is almost identical in width and length, but the Dome lid makes it 2 inches taller thus giving it more quart capacity then the 86 qt. dried, A person should not have to change the original Cooler Cleats on the Montauk because the cooler sat on top of the cleats.. For the Outrage, you may need to move the cleats forward and outward about a 1/4 inch. The newer Montauks did go to the 74 qt in front of the console. Joe |
