The teak on my boat is starting to look shabby.
How do I remove old Cetol finish?
I tried a 2-part cleaner but it doesnt seem to come off.
Is sanding the only way?
Please advise.
Thanks!

Try Dolphinite 37 second teak cleaner and brightener. If the cetol is being stubborn, try wet sanding.

i've had good results using starbrite teak cleaner and teak oil. i purchased both products at boat u.s. i bet you could also find them at west marine.

Cetol is more like a paint/varnish than oil. I don't think you will be able to remove it with just the typical teak cleaner products.

My guess is you will be doing some sanding.

I went to HomeDepot and got some standard varnish remover and some remover-neutralizer. Two applications got most of the varnish off but I still had to sand. That is why I will NEVER have varnish on my teak again...even though I think it does look better!
