With shift shaft broken, after reading all of the archived posts regarding 88 yamaha problems, I ended up buying a new F90. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions as I re-learn engine maintenance on this engine? I have seen some posts about light smoke at start, but everyone seems to be happy with this power.

Maiden voyage this weekend.

I used to get an OCCASIONAL puff at startup. Switched to Mobil 1 synthetic and non in about 6 months. Also find out what car equivelent oil filter can be used. Why spend $12 when you can spend $4.

Wow. Only 2 hours into break-in (meaning low rpm's mainly), but what a difference. I can actually have a conversation while motoring. No comment on the power yet, as I am trying to follow the guidelines for break in.

Everyone talks about 4 strokes having too much weight. Can you notice any difference and does your hull sit differently in the water?

Not in the ride, although I only have 3 hours and limited rpm's on her yet. I did have to adjust the trailer axle to account for the 150 or so pounds. I have been able to get her on a plane on these low rpm rides, and she appears to be sitting about the same. YOu can here the cell phone ring at 3500 rpm's. It actually scared me when it rang - it was so unusual.
