Need a fire extinguisher pocket for my 87 outrage 18. The teak frame is in good shape, just need the pocket. Saw that whalersman has one on Ebay with a fiberglass pocket - where does one get that pocket? Thanks.

That is the same pocket that I am using on the Teak Fire Extinguisher Pocket I have for sale on eBay.I made my own Teak Frame using the pattern from my original Montauk pocket. Rather then just make one up, I made another for a friend and a couple for sale on eBay. You may have to modify your existing Teak frame to accomate this pocket, I don't know for sure as I did not want to take the one out of my Montauk. Good Luck Joe |

Whalersman - just checked one of my e-mail accounts - got your question. It is a 1987 Outrage 18. I'll add the serial number to your list when I get a chance. For some reason my server will not allow me to respond to your e-mails. Thanks.

vineyarder,Thanks for the response... I was beginning to wonder what happened to you... I got your first email but after that I heard nothing... How is your project coming??? Have you received the Fire Extinguisher Pocket yet? Please let me know if there is anything you had to modify on your original Teak Frame to accomodate the new Pocket... Joe |

Have received the pocket. The boat is at the boatyard getting the outboard serviced. The pocket is about the same dimensions as the rotted plywood pocket I removed. I suspect I will be able to remove the teak frame and fix the pocket to it with a few small wood screws. Will let you know how it goes. |

vineyarder I bought a pocket also. Will you be using the teak frame with the pocket? I had just enough time to hold it up to the hole and run out of sunlight. It looks like the pocket is self rimming and would only require sealer to hold it in place. I'm too busy with work until next week to install mine. Let me know how the installation goes. |

Happy,The pocket is self rimimng and the manufacturer suggest that you put a bead of silicone under the rim to seal it... Are you using a Teak Frame over the Pocket? I have a couple of complete pockets and teak frames that I am selling.... The frames are not that easy to make and the teak is not cheap.... I am offering anyone on this forum the package for $75.00........ Otherwise, my price is a minimum of $100.00 on eBay... I would rather buy another Whaler or two to install this pockets in then sell them for anything less.. The frames do take time to dowel, glue, radius, and inset the back for the pocket..... Let alone the price of the teak and cutting the teak to size. I had an offer today from someone on eBay and they offered me $40.00... I laughed for about an hour........ I am still laughing..... Here is a link to how I did it and what someone on this forum might want to add to their boat.... www.sisqtel.net/~jkriz/photos/extinguisher.html |

I used teak frame from original pocket and took router to cut out for flange of the molded Boat US pocket, looks and works great |

It looked like the frame would not fit right if using the self rimming installation method. I ran out of daylight and will look at it again tomorrow. |

I pulled my link from the above post....If anyone is interested in a Teak Fire Extinguisher Pocket that is not easy to produce and can appreciate the labor that goes into one, please let me know. I am not in the business to make item for Boston Whaler, but I was forced to make the above because it was no longer available anywhere. I freely gave out information on this subject only to get nothing..... Not even a Thank You...... |

whalersmanSorry I didn't get back to you and did not mean to offend you. Thank-you for your help. I fell asleep at the computer last night and woke up catching flies when my snoring stirred me. |

HAPPYJIM,Thanks for the response.. I am only trying to help here... I am not trying to "Sell" Teak Fire Extinguisher Pockets. For those of you that already have the existing Teak Frame and just want to replace the pocket, you will probably have to notch the back side of your existing Teak Frame, as memmorymake states, to accomodate the new pocket as the new pockets are slightly different then the older, original ones... You can purchase the pocket that is mentioned in a post above and they cost $20.00 plus shipping unless you are fortunate enough to live close enough to a store that handles them. I have had several inquiries about the Teak Fire Extinguisher Pockets so I have put the photos back on the link above... If anyone wants to make their own Teak Frame, PLEASE, be my guest. I only have a couple of these Frames made up and do not intend on making anymore at this time. They are time consuming to make and I am not in the business. I may make a few more of these over the winter, but definitely not during the summer.. |

Whalersman - have you ever done a similar modification to the louvre doors on the console using acrylic or starboard doors? Your fire extinguisher pocket brings the console up to an easier level of maintainence. Now for the doors. |
