I'm going to replace the standard console on my 17' Standard with a larger console to get some additional space for electronics, gauges, and storage space. I'm curious if anyone has done this already, and would like advice as to the source of the new console, fitting to the boat, electronics installation, electrical system upgrades, etc. On the electrical system subject, I've noticed that my boat came with very poorly organized wiring, in that everything that requires power in the console is just "piggy-backed" on a single source wire to the battery. This seems a little "cheap" for a whaler product, and makes troubleshooting difficult. I'm considering installation of a fuse block to get all the wiring organized. I am curious as to what others have done in this area.

I don`t know if you ever get over to Eastern Ohio or not, but I have a 1973 `16 Currituck, before they were called a Sport, the Currituck has a 3/4 width Console and has much more space than the Sport. If you want to stop by some weekend and take measurements and take photos you are welcome to :) Jack. |

Andy, I converted my 96 with side console to a center console. Don't know your year model, but the center tunnel was just glassed in at both ends. I had the local Whaler dealer call the factory for me, and then, following their instructions open the tunnel. I then installed a Montauk console and RPS. Has made a very nice rig. There was an earlier thread on standards converted to center consoles. Good luck, David |

David, are you saying your rigging tunnel was closedoff? I have a 1973 `16 Currituck and the Tunnel works, I thought the tunnel worked on all 16/17 Ft. models? Jack. |

Jack, the Whaler factory folks said that the tunnel was in place, even though both ends were glassed over, and there was a plastic cover screwed over the console well. The dealer cut open both ends and sealed them properly. This made the tunnel fully functional, and I haven't had any trouble with it. David |
