My 1987 115 yamaha oil reservior remote tank has a one way air valve. As the oil is pumped to the tank on the engine, air goes in. Good system except...

On the trailer in the driveway, hot days causes the tank to heat up and expand, causing oil to be forced into the tank on the engine. At night, it cools and air replaces the oil. The process repeats, and soon the tank on the engine overflows. For right now, I have lostened the cap on the remote tank. Just the type of thing I might forget to tighten when I launch. Any Ideas?

On my Yamaha I believe the cap on the resevour is vented. Is yours the original cap? If not You may consider purchaseing the replacement from Yamaha. I did this a year ago and they are quite proud of their caps.

Just getting back to work. My oil tank is vented, but it is a one way vent. I think this is what is causing the problem, but I'll look into it a bit more.
