just got my first powerboat, had to be a BW. Still trying to figure some of the stuff out.It came with a Mills canvas bimini, its the 2 part kind. The sidemount hinges are missing, does anyone know kind they came with? fixed or sliders? Does it matter? Also there are two small canvas peices that somehow zip together. Looked at the Mills web site no help. Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site-
It would help us to help you if you would indicate what model and what year your boat is, as well as a little more detailed description of the Mills canvas parts you have (size, shape, etc.)

1985 Montock, one of the canvas parts has zippers on both ends about a foot wide and six foot long, it there anyway to post a picture to show more?
Great site, I really enjoy reading all the posts, its a big reason I paid extra and got a Whaler.

Mine came with fixed mount, but sliders would be better. I believe most of the marine supply places, such as West Marine, or Boaters World, would stock both.

If it has zippers, it doesn't sound like a Bimini or SunTop.... I sounds more like part of the Flying Top Set.
If you send me some photos I could take a look at them and maybe see what you have. I could also send you photos of a Flying Top Set made by Mills if you like.
The Flying Top set is 3 pieces.
The Flying Top is roughly 3' long with zippers and the Sun Top is roughly 6' long with no zippers.
There were also things you could add to the Flying Top Set which were Side Curtains, and Rear Drop Curtain...
The Flying Top Set had two pieces of mahogany mounted on each side of the boat and on the inside small runners of the gunwale which had the Stainless attachments for the the Flying Top and the Forward Shelter...
Try and let us know what you have.

I just sent you an email and it came back undeliverable to the address you list on this site.
Please fix your email or remove it so some of us don't waste our time trying to help you...

It sounds like the storage boot for either the flying top or the sun top.

Good one Peter........
This reminds me of the Computer Classes I used to teach..... Everyone in the beginning class was holding the mouse upside down with the wire or tail at the bottom...
It is sometimes hard to go back to the beginning of life and try and remember how we learned to tie our shoes..... or anything else for that matter....

Sorry about the email, leave off the 4, when I registered it would not take my email, said it was already taken? I'm a newbe at computers too. I'm not sure how to fix it.
Sounds like your right on target. There are 4 holes on each side where the wood was propably attached. But here's the weird part, the frame has a short leg with a rubber cap. I do think your also right about the other part, its got to be the front, but where does it get mounted? Its probably simple but dang it I cannot figure it out.
The other canvas might be those covers, I'll try them before I go to work in the morning. Thanks for the help. You guys are great.

Whatever adventure we travel into life, we are all newbes'......
I can understand that....... I just sent you another email to firstname.lastname@example.org.......
I have not received it back yet so I hope you receive it......
I think Peter probably hit the target when he mentioned that the item you described as being 1 foot wide and six feet long with a zipper in it was the boot for the Sun Top or whatever???
Everyone here will try and help you out as much as they can... It is sometimes hard to determine exactly what a person has without any photos...
Keep us informed as please let me know if you got my email.

I fixed the email address for "newbe". The reason he could not use his email is he had already registered with that email address in another account that apparently he has forgotten about.

What is an "eye bracket"?
What is a "2 part kind (of bimini)"?

thanks for a wonderful site, I registered under last week and forgot my pass word, duh. I appreciate you fixing my email. I don't know how much I have to contribute, I'm a diehard sailor, but I will certainly be listening, there are some good guys in here.
p.s. do you know what happened to my Cuba question?

Wow, right on baby. Pic's were great (nice boat), I think I'm missing the canvas that connects the two. Do you have any showing how you mount those brackets.

It sounds like you have 2 parts of the Flying Top Set.. From what you describe, you have the Forward Shelter and the Flying Top but are missing the Windshield.
You should also have 2 boots, 1 for the Forward Shelter and 1 for the Flying Top. ("Also there are two small canvas peices that somehow zip together") These two pieces do not zip to each other, they zip completey around the Flying Top to protect it when it is in the folded down position. The same with the Forward Shelter.
I am sending you a photo of the mounting brackets. If you need better shots, just let me know as these are not close-ups...
