Front of the console is taken. Me and my boyzza like to take 3 rods each. I was thinking to put two 3-rod holders on the side one above the other but offset and might have to raise the bottome one off the console by an inch or so, put the long butts in the top one and shorts in the bottom. Just seems there's gotta be a better way besides a leaning post. Anybody familiar old whalers have any ideas ? the sidewalls seem too low, maybe could get a 2 strapon.thanks

Are we talking Montauk here? In my view rod holders on the side of the console would make it too narrow to get past easily. |

Duh.. just reread the title, its a Katama. Oops. Is the front of the console taken up as a backrest, or what? |

I haven't felt the need to carry that many setups yet in my Katama, but I think I would make a horizontal, wood, rod butt holder on the starboard side of the console. That with one on a rail mount on same side and two in the rps back would do it. Or lose the cubby in the console next to the front seats and drill Three butt holders into it if you have or use canvas. I think maybe I see another spring project coming. Back, back, damn you boat Gods, you know I have to get the Outrage ready. Larry |

I need some rod storage on my Montauk as well, but vertical storage on the console doesn't sound like the best way for me. You would never be able to store the rods and have the bimini up. I am looking a some sort of horizontal rod rake mounted on the inside gunnel or grab rail. I like the grab rail way so I wouldn't have to drill holes into the hull, but brackets to mount to the rails are pretty expensive. Don't know how I'll got just yet. |

Here it is, I think i got it. I bought 2 sets of G LOX 3 rodholder sets, $12 a set a Basspro Shop. These mount horizontally. They are 8" x 5"(?). They are made out of anodized aluminum and foam rubber. They are placed 3 to 4 feet apart and are designed to slide rod portion(no butts) in between snugly fitting foam rubber openings. I am going with this and a 3 r/h vertical mount on side of console. 1 problem down a few more to go. |

I have been looking at the same thing on my Katama and concluded that some rod mounts with rail clamps across the windshield bar on the inside is the best option. The windshield has to be 50% wider than a Montauk and should hold 6 rods |

That is a good place. I think you could fit a 5er and a 3 there, maybe 3 3ers. you'll be looking thru your rods all day though. I can't do this, I'm going with a 50 qt coolerseat and a tackle box with 3 interchangeable boxes next to it. Those G LOX are nice. I looked at them again they only protrude 4". I'll be able to do nine rods no problem plus 4 rail mount holders if more is needed. Check those G LOX. You should be able to use at least one set. |
